With RegAlert - How RegAlert saves time to help you [ more ]
You are involved in an accident and rendered unconscious, unable to communicate...
Emergency medical services personnel (paramedics) arrive on the scene to find you in a very serious condition. They'll have to work very fast to save your life and every second is vitally important for your survival.
Paramedics cannot simply give you medicine without being sure it won't affect you in a negative way. Sometimes when people have allergies, or certain medical conditions like heart or blood pressure problems, medication that will save someone else's life can do you more harm than good. Without RegAlert, it's very likely that:
Paramedics won't know who you are and have no way of identifying you or knowing any of your vital medical information in the case of a serious emergency. They need to take some time to ensure that they don't give you medicine that can end up harming you. What they usually do is to give you small doses of medication and then monitor your body's reaction to treatment.
The medical staff may determine it is safe to use the medication, or they may urgently need to find an alternative treatment... Whether or not you have any allergies or pre-existing medical conditions, valuable time has been wasted to avoid hasty actions by the paramedics who are trying to save your life.
The paramedics don't know your medical aid status and since private hospitals or clinics usually don't allow patients unless payment is guaranteed, paramedics decide it's a risk taking you to a private hospital as they can be turned away and may need to drive around to find one that will accept you, usually a public health care facility which may or may not have the resources to provide you with adequate care. Once again, precious time is wasted.
Time does not stand still for anyone and these life and death situations, nobody can afford even one wasted second. [ apply now ]
With RegAlert, the following will happen:
- Because RegAlert has worked very hard to create awareness among all SA paramedics, they will immediately check for anything indicating your RegAlert membership the moment they arrive on the scene. They soon find something, and contact us by SMS or phone, with your car registration, bracelet code or anything else that uniquely references you as member.
- RegAlert contacts the paramedic and receives details such as the location of the incident, which hospital or health care facility you'll be taken to, as well as basic information about your condition.
- Once RegAlert has captured this information, our emergency call centre staff will notify your contacts of what is happening to you.
- RegAlert will then notify your medical aid, insurance institution and/or your employer if you're unable to do so yourself.
Please note: This is for a scenario where a paramedic calls the our 24-hour call center. The RegAlert call center is also available to our members for any assistance you may require 24/7.
